1. Nourishment means caring. I immediately thought of a hand, specifically my mother's hand - the hand that fed me when I could not feed myself. I decided to make a bowl, a classic symbol of nourishment, and a similar concept as the hand.
2. I really enjoyed working with people from outside the student community. It was a breath of fresh air and a reminder that people from all backgrounds and all different experiences can share fundamental things - revealed in the way that we worked with the clay, an innate and visceral experience. People who had not worked with clay before and students of clay, all approached it in the same meditative way. It created a community, a sense of home, as we worked together.
